REMEMBERING A FRIEND

I sit here gazing at the star~lit sky,
and I often wonder, "Why did he die?"

As I look at the bright full moon,
I often wonder why he died so soon.

Whenever I felt hurt, or sick with the "bug",
my friend would run up to me and give me a hug.

I remember how he rolled and tumbled at play,
but then I realize he's not with me today.

I remember him running and jumping around,
but now he's buried in the cold, dark ground.

I will always remember him, I will tell you that.
I will always remember my dear little cat!

*In Loving Memory of our departed feline companions!

NIGHT TIME

When humans lie down, and go to sleep
It is now the time, for us to creep.
They have settled down, turned out the light,
But we are creatures of the night.
So should we join them? nice and quiet,
When it sounds more fun, to start a riot.
They left us food, but we want more,
Time to batter down the door,
They tell us that, we mustn't grumble,
Humph, soon show them, time to RUMBLE
Chasing shadows around the walls,
Up the stairs and back down the halls.
Oops what was that? It won't matter,
If it were any good, it wouldn't shatter.
Someone's coming, better take our places,
With innocent looks, on our faces.
Ready to answer, those accusing glares,
By pretending to sleep on separate chairs.

This next section was taken from the book:

Don't Sweat The Small Stuff by Richard Carlson, PH.D.

OFTEN we allow ourselves to get all worked up about things that, upon closer examination, aren't really that big a deal. We focus on little problems and concerns and blow them way out of proportion. A stranger, for example, might cut in front of us in traffic. Rather than let it go, and go on with our day, we convince ourselves that we are justified in our anger. We play out an imaginary confrontation in our mind. Many of us might even tell someone else about the incident later on rather than simply let it go. Why not instead simply allow the driver to have his accident somewhere else? Try to have compassion for the person and remember how painful it is to be in such an enormous hurry. This way, we can maintain our own sense of well-being and avoid taking other people's problems personally. There are many similar, "small stuff" examples that occur every day in our lives. Whether we had to wait in line, listen to unfair criticism, or do the lion's share of the work, it pays enormous dividends if we learn not to worry about little things. So many people spend so much of their life energy "sweating the small stuff" that they completely lose touch with the magic and beauty of life. When you commit to working toward this goal you will find that you will have far more energy to be kinder and gentler.

ROSES

It's only a rose,
but it's a flower of God's design,
and I cannot unfold the petals
with these quality hands of mine.

The secret of unfolding flowers
is not known to such as I.
The flower which God opens so sweetly
in my hands would fade and die.

If I cannot unfold the rose bud,
the flower of God's design,
how can I think I have the wisdom
to unfold this life of mine?

So I'll trust in Him for His leading,
each moment of every day
and look to Him for His guidance
each step of the broken way.

For the pathway that lies before me,
my Heavenly Father knows.
I'll trust in Him to unfold the moments
just as He unfolds the rose.

THE DAWNING

After awhile you learn the subtle difference
between holding a hand and chaining soul.

And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't mean security.
You begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises,

and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes open,
with the grace of a woman,
not the grief of a child,

and you learn to build your roads on today,
for tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
and futures have a way
of falling down in mid-flight.

After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much.

So you plant your own garden
and decorate your own Soul,
instead of waiting
for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn
that YOU
really can endure,
that YOU
really are strong,
and YOU
really do have worth!

And you learn....and you learn...
with every good-bye
you learn!

FRIENDSHIP

Thank you for believing in me
when I found it difficult
to believe in myself...
for saying what I've needed to hear sometimes,
instead of what I've wanted to hear...
for siding with me...
and for giving me another side to consider.

Thank you for opening yourself up to me...
for trusting me with your thoughts
and disappointments and dreams...
for knowing you can depend on me
and for asking my help when you've needed it.

Thank you for putting so much
thought and care and imagination
into our friendship...
for sharing so many nice times
and making so many special memories with me.

Thank you for always being honest with me
being kind to me...being there for me.

Thank you for being
a friend to me
in so many meaningful ways.

GOD PLEASE BLESS MY COMPUTER

Every night I lie in bed
This little prayer inside my head

God bless my mom and dad
and bless my children
and take care of my spouse
who brings me so much joy...

God, there's just one more thing
I wish that you would do
if you don't mind my asking
to bless my 'puter, too??

Now I know that it's not normal
to bless a small machine
but listen just a second
and I'll try to explain...

You see, that little metal box
holds more than odds and ends
Inside those small components
rest a hundred loving friends.

Some it's true I've never seen
and most I've never met...
never shaken hands or
ever truly hugged, and yet...

I know for sure they love me
by the kindnesses they give,
and this little scrap of metal
is how I get to where they live.

By faith is how I know them,
Much the same as I know You.

I share in life it brings them,
So if it's OK with you...

Just take an extra minute
from your duties up above...
to bless this little hunk of steel
that's filled with so much love.

So God, Please Bless My Puter...

FRIEND

I cannot ease your aching heart,
Nor take your pain away;
But let me stay and take your hand
And walk with you today...
I'll listen when you need to talk,
I'll wipe away your tears,
I'll share your worries when they come,
I'll help you face your fears.
I'm here and I will stand by you,
Each hill you have to climb.
So take my hand, let's face the world
Live one day at a time.
You're not alone, for I'm still here...
I'll go that extra mile.
And when your grief is easier,
I'll help you learn to smile!
